She manages to persuade them otherwise but realises that Troy will take aggressive action to rescue her, so she joins Nefir and Gerit in their craft in an attempt to intercept Stingray before Troy destroys the airlock door that will flood the Bitumites’ city. Meanwhile, Atlanta discovers that her captors, Bitumites Nefir and Gerit, believed that the drilling operation was an attack on their underwater world. She returns to Stingray and alerts Troy and Phones. During the night, undersea aliens kidnap Atlanta from her cabin, but Marina follows the aliens’ vessel to an airlock leading to a city under the sea bed. The Stingray crew investigate the mysterious destruction of three oil rigs, visiting a fourth rig in the same field to observe operations. Dispatching a Mechanical Fish to delay Stingray’s journey, Titan sends X20 to Pacifica pretending to be an emissary from Kazu. Titan learns that Stingray is bound for the undersea city of Pacifica to meet Marina’s people.

Troy protests that the WASP’s function is investigation, not aggression, but Titan subjects him to a strange trial in which he is judged by a huge fish, the sea god Teufel who looks only upon friends of the Titanican people. Stingray crashes onto the sea bed and Troy and Phones are taken captive by Titan, leader of the undersea city of Titanica.
The Stingray crew investigate the mysterious destruction of the submarine Sea Probe but come under attack from a strange Mechanical Fish.
